ABOUT Lesley Mapstone
Hello! I'm a Canadian and British photographer and journalist and have worked in media for most of my career, most recently living between Canada and Nepal from 2017 to 2020.
In 2017 I was invited to deliver medical supplies into remote Himalayan villages and I fell hopelessly in love with the country and its people. I overcame my fears during that trip and I knew I would return before I left.
In photography, my mission is to communicate beauty and relevance in places where others may see misfortune and prejudice. My driving motivator is compassionate love for people and circumstances, and animals.
I desire to share the beauty I see in the world, sometimes in unexpected places. In the juxtaposition of the innocent face of a child who is a temple thief, or the unforgiving poverty of the dust laden hovels that line mountain roadways, where one can find immense generosity. God given beauty is easy to see, but I like what is hidden, what is less obvious and takes more time to explore. I like to find beauty in the things that are not always outwardly beautiful, but do carry value.
.Looking at the world through my lens helped me overcome vertigo, it was the only way I could look from fantastic heights, without having the world around me swirl like a kaleidoscope. It helped me look more closely, and less critically at the world, and channel my passions into art.
One risky choice changed my life for the better. Thank you for visiting my website, I hope to hear from you.
